About Maya

I was born and grew up in Tokyo, and I do not like travel due to my obsessive compulsive nature. In fact, after I came to the United States to study at Pacific Lutheran University in Tacoma, WA, I have barely moved.

On the other hand, my husband, who was born in the mainland U.S. and was raised in Hawaii, moved half a dozen times while he was studying at the University of Washington.

A short trip to Hawaii was our first vacation together after we married. It was a fun trip. It was great in the sense that I could immerse myself into the place where he established his easygoing dakine spirit. The relaxed, slow pace of people there made me feel a bit crazy, being used to the rhythm of busy life in Tokyo.
